Journal Ranking - ISDS Department (December 2003)

This list of journal ranking is a guideline for faculty and PhD students seeking to publish in academic journals. This list covers the main areas of the ISDS Department. This list is based on ranking provided at: http://www.isworld.org/csaunders/rankings.htm.

This is not thought of as an exhaustive list of journals. There are many excellent journals in other fields which are not included here and this list should not discourage faculty members to publish in “A” journals outside the areas mentioned in the list. However, if faculty members publish in journals which are not on this list they should provide evidence regarding the ranking in the respective fields. This evidence should consist of objective criteria such as ranking in the literature, ranking in other disciplines,* acceptance rate, quality of editorial board and organization publishing the journal. For P&T purposes, publication in “A” journals would likely result in positive P&T recommendations at peer research universities. Publications in “B” journals would be viewed positively in the P&T process at peer research universities, but publishing exclusively in them may not lead to promotion and tenure.

* Example: Management Science in OM/MS, Academy of Management Journal in Management, ACM Transactions in Computer Science, etc.
