• American University, Kogod School of Business: Washington, DC (USA). American University's Kogod School of Business offers several options for undergraduate study in Information Technology. The BS in Computer Information Systems (BSCIS) focuses on how information systems are built and deployed. The BS in Business Administration (BSBA) allows students to pursue a 12 credit area of specialization in Management of IT and E-Commerce, an 18 credit minor in Computer Information Systems (CIS), or a 36 credit double major in CIS.

• Ben-Gurion University, Deptartment of Information Systems Engineering: Beer-Sheva, (Choose one) (Israel). Provides students with the concepts and tools that form the fundamental base of knowledge essential to computer information systems professionals. The ISE curriculum is interdisciplinary and encompasses, in addition to IS courses, a wide range of courses in reference disciplines such as computer science, mathematics, statistics, engineering sciences, and management sciences. Graduates of the Department of ISE are provided with the tools to perform diverse tasks in the IS field such as specifying the information needs of users and managers in organizations; performing feasibility studies of information systems; analyzing and designing software, data bases and user interfaces; and developing prototype systems by application of appropriate analysis and design methodologies and CASE tools. Other tasks include programming, implementation, maintenance and administration of information systems. The B.Sc. degree is a four-year program (8 semesters). In the first and second years of study the emphasis is on basic courses in areas such as computer science, mathematics, statistics, and quantitative methods. Most of the courses that are specific to the IS discipline are concentrated in the third and fourth years of study. The fourth year includes elective courses in information systems and requires the completion of an intensive final project.

The undergraduate degree program prepares students to focus on the use of technology in business systems, including accounting, databases, automating procedures, and the like. The MIS degree focuses on the business applications of information technology. This included emphasizing necessary skills required in the analysis, development, evaluation and implementation of various information and communication technologies critical for today’s internet-enabled organizations. The integration of information technology throughout all aspects of business coupled with the critical need for responsive information systems has created a strong demand for graduates with expertise in both information systems and business administration. Once MIS students satisfy basic requirements of common foundation and business courses, they will focus on specialized courses in areas such as systems analysis and design, business programming, database design and management, expert and decision support systems, data mining applications, data communications and network security, management science methods, enterprise resource planning systems and electronic commerce. The MSCS degree is very similar to the MIS degree with minor, yet significant differences. • University of Arkansas at Monticello, Division of Computer Information Systems: Monticello, AR (USA). The university offers a BS degree in Computer Information Systems (CIS). The BS degree in CIS is a comprehensive degree with supportive courses in business, technical writing, and communication. Appropriate courses are taught in a server-based environment. Most courses are taught in one of two instructional laboratories or in one of three special purpose laboratories. The division maintains a separate virtual internship laboratory and works with Rural Sourcing, Inc. to provide virtual internships with nationally recognized companies. Each major has only 4 required major courses beyond the introductory course required of all business students, but most majors also offer elective courses. In MIS, after the introductory course, students are required to take Introduction to Programming (currently Java), Database Management Systems, Systems Analysis and Design, and MIS Strategy (which includes a module on Information Resource Management). We also currently offer electives in E-Commerce and Data Communications and Networking.

The Management Sciences and Information Systems department at UMB offers undergraduate and graduate concentrations in MIS and currently has 10 full-time IS faculty. The program examines the organisational needs of an e-business and the information systems needs required by that business. It looks at the planning, development and management of e-business information systems that provide information for business decision making. Knowledge and expertise is gained in the design and implementation of computer-based business systems, as well as supporting skills in accounting, economics and general business. Early in the program students undertake core courses in information systems, economics, marketing, accounting, communication, statistics and law. The program emphasises practical-based learning and develops the organisational and communication skills of its graduates. The program is recognised as satisfying the educational requirements for membership of the Australian Computing Society. In the computer networking area, students learn about networking theory, hardware, configuration, design, installation, and network operating system administration.
