Foreword

Welcome to IS World France. There is a growing community of IS researchers throughout France at the various business schools, engineering schools and universities. As you will see in the following pages, we have an annual conference, a journal, and academic and professional associations, which have all existed for some time. Indeed, we celebrated ten years of the French “Association for Information Management” (AIM) in 2001.

IS World France is a new venture for us, and we would be very grateful to hear of criticisms, comments and additional material to improve the site.

Purpose

The mission of IS World Net is to provide information, which is intended to be of universal interest to all IS researchers.

This IS World site is devoted to the presentation of the French academic community to the international community of IS academics, and is therefore written in English.

Our site is restricted to the country of France. Other French speaking communities have developed or can develop their own country pages. The AIM web site is directed to the French speaking community in French.

This web site is based on responses to our proposals to the French IS community as a whole, but is not exhaustive and you are encouraged to contact us to improve on the site.

Conferences

The Association Information et Management (AIM) has been organising a conference (now annual) for over ten years. Our next conference will be held in Lausanne.

The conference is double-blind refereed. The conference publishes formal proceedings (either in English or French) and has attracted many international scholars. Proceedings for the previous conferences are available.

IS Journals

The main research journal of the French academic community is Systemes d’Information et Management (SIM) which was created in 1996. It publishes in French and English and is double-blind refereed. The Revue des Systemes de Decision is also published in French and English. Members of the French academic community include the joint editor in chief of the Information Systems Journal (ISJ) and we are represented in many journal academic boards.

Associations

ASSOCIATION INFORMATION ET MANAGEMENT (AIM)

AIM was created in 1991. It brings together teachers, researchers and practitioners in the information systems domain. Its purpose is to promote debates about IS within the French speaking world and with international colleagues. It constitutes an exchange hub for all those who teach, evaluate, design and implement IS.

Its activities include the publishing of an academic journal (SIM) and a newsletter, and it organizes many scientific, pedagogic and professional events. Along with the annual conference, AIM organizes teaching and practitioner workshops that address problems linked to training, design, implementation or usage of IS. For example, recent workshops include those on quality and information systems, management and organizational impacts of IS, and e-learning. AIM also runs an annual PhD consortium and supports PhD students generally.

AIM also contributes to the CIMRE conference (on corporate networks), participates in the evaluation of research awards and has a strong partnership with the journal SIM.

La Fondation Nationale pour l'Enseignement de la Gestion des Entreprises (FNEGE)

The Paris-based “French Foundation for Management Education” offers training to develop managerial skills in organizations. This includes information systems. Thanks to its network of business schools and Universities, FNEGE has access to the most competent French experts in all fields of management.

Its general aim is to make a practical contribution to the development, in France and abroad, of management training and research. Mission FNEGE focuses on the improvement of managerial potential within organisations. Its six key missions are: to promote stronger ties between management education and industry; to develop and improve the quality of French training programmes in management and business administration; to promote best practice in organizations; to link institutions dedicated to management training; and to develop and spread, in France and abroad, research in management sciences.

CLUB INFORMATIQUE DES GRANDES ENTREPRISES FRANCAISES (CIGREF)

The association for the French CIO

ASSOCIATION FRANCAISE DES UTILISATEURS DE L’INTERNET (AFNET)

The French association for the development of Open Systems and Neteconomics.
